CURSIVE IS FUN!!

1. With your child, start by bringing each letter to life with its own personality & attributes.

Allow for CREATIVITY & IMAGINATION!

2. Start each lesson with a joke (100+ kids jokes online) and a plexer or brain puzzle.

It sets the stage for FUN & their brain will be ready!

3. Divide the lowercase letters into five 20-45 minute lessons & include a few capitals.

Pick ones that are most RELEVANT for your learner.

Lesson 1: “Meet the Cursives:” a e l i u t
Lesson 2: “Mostly Tall Letters & Copy Cats” d j f h y
Lesson 3: “Tails & Bumps” g z n q m
Lesson 4: “ Pointer Sisters” v b s w r (letters with a “point”)
Lesson 5: “Magic Mix” o (this one takes time) p x c k

With this lesson order, your child can learn WORDS immediately

instead of practicing individual letters over & over & over…BORING!

Always start each new lesson with a review of the previous lesson’s letters.

4. Design cursive lessons around their relevancy to your children.

Include it with vocabulary being taught, favorite words, time of year, projects, themes.

Daily infused, short practices (10-20 min) help with its mastery.

5. Start them learning the letters in their name so they can acquire their signature fast!

That will keep their excitement stoked with cursive!

6. Have them journal their cursive experience after each lesson,

circling their favorite letters & what they are the most proud of, etc.

7. Use graph paper to help with letter spacing as your child’s cursive expertise grows.

Remember: Keep it FUN! Follow your child’s excitement!
