I sense a cursive comeback brewing across this nation.
More and more school systems are awakening to the importance of teaching cursive.
Let’s keep the flames stoked!
CURSIVE LIVES!
Using the acronym, “l.i.v.e.s.” (an easy way to remember!)… allow me to share some tips on keeping cursive alive and active in our personal lives!
L = LEGIBLE
Legible cursive is a valued commodity. It seems as our society raced ahead, our penmanship became more hurried too.
Have you, like me, gotten to the point when signing a credit transaction, you rush through your signature and end up scribbling or squiggling a curvy line to denote your name?
As the rush increased…our cursive writing decreased!
Remember when “forging signatures” got people panicked? To protect themselves, folks started scrawling their name so it couldn’t be copied. As a result much cursive became illegible.
Doctors always have long been notorious for their erratic handwriting…and the rest of humanity followed suit.
No blame here on our physicians…just giving an example.
As I researched cursive, I found the one constant reason many gave it up was because so often, it was hard to read. Some handwriting was legible. Much of the rest was chicken scratch!
Basically people lost their respect for their penmanship…technology came along…and voila’…it was SAYONARA to cursive writing!
I proclaim we turn the tables…slow down…take the time and VALUE our handwriting. It’s our own personal cursive…our own unique signature…no one else has it.
Script is beautiful…attractive…and personal.
VALUE yours…give it your best and see what comes forth.
I = INFUSE
We’ve slowed down…our cursive is legible…now…let’s INFUSE it more into our daily lifestyle.
Write and send more personal notes. Journal more in cursive. Write your grocery lists in cursive.
Compose a love note to your significant other in cursive and put it under their pillow.
Whenever you write…do it in CURSIVE.
Let’s INFUSE it more into our day…our week…our lives!
V = VALUE
“Value Cursive?” you say. I resound with a hearty…”YES INDEED!”
Society is in a constant “rat race.” Technology butts in everywhere we go.
No wonder the value or worth of so many things have been brushed under the rug.
That goes for cursive writing too.
In Hispanic countries, children are taught to HONOR their personal, unique handwriting…to value it…to esteem its importance as identifying one’s own uniqueness.
I proclaim we resurrect the VALUE of cursive…the importance of our very OWN signature that is identified ONLY with us.
As we appreciate our own penmanship and take PRIDE in writing our best…cursive will increase in its VALUE!
E = ENJOY
Of course as we take pride and value our cursive, it’s important to purpose to ENJOY writing it.
It’s so crafty and flowing. I love making a capital S or F and finishing off the last letter in a word with a flourish.
It’s so artistic and brain-enriching too!
I may be a little over the top…but do you ever go back and look at each cursive letter you made?
My Aunt CeCe’s cursive I could “ooh” and “ahh” over all day long. It made me happy to look at it!
Whose cursive do you love? Come on! We all have someone’s we’re enamored over!!
Crazy, weird, or whatever you may want to call it…it’s ENJOYING the art of cursive!!
